Design Proposal

JANUARY 2022

The ultimate purpose of this proposal is to establish a community that focuses on reducing the negative impact upon the environment. It also serves as a learning platform to help educate and introduce a zero-waste lifestyle to the consumers/ community. It can be further enhanced by incorporating smart technology to help achieve sustainable development.

Products ranging from detergent, fabric conditioners, bleach, and other household cleaners can be refilled at this station.

Consumers are encouraged to bring their containers which they can then fill up with the products of their choice. This helps reduce and eliminate unnecessary plastic waste where these products are usually packaged.

A selection of donated containers that have been cleaned and disinfected is also available for cheap. Alternatively, consumers can also choose to purchase new bottles and jars off the shelves if needed. Consumers are also encouraged to shop in bulk to reduce carbon footprints.

This circular display area is used as a display for the beauty and personal care products carried by Unilever. Products displayed are easily accessible from around and inside the display area, enhancing the overall shopping experience of the consumers through design.

Plants were also added to the circular suspended plaster ceiling, adding to the aesthetic value of the space. The display area is elevated by a platform to highlight and separate it from the rest of the space.

Located at the far end of the shop, the checkout counter marks the end of the shopping experience. Consumers can finalize their purchase here by making the necessary payment. Cashless payment method is also widely supported for an easy and covid-free transaction.

Self-checkout counters are made available to prevent long queues during peak hours. This allows more customers to be served in a shorter time resulting in more purchases in the same time frame, as well as in shorter queues. It improves the overall shopping experience of the consumers – who will not hesitate to come back for more in the future.

A good in-store experience further creates a pleasant and welcoming store environment!

Surrounded by growing corps, the seatings are placed in the center of the verticle farm to allow a different dining experience. The twostory-tall farm also adopts a circular plan which allows occupants to move freely into and out of the space.

Having a verticle farm in the city not only helps adds and preserve the green spaces in the city, but also provides a platform for the surrounding community to come together and build community cohesion. Indoor farming also helps promote a healthier community as food is grown this way is free from pesticides and chemical fertilizers. Furthermore, consumers can learn to grow their crops at home, giving them a better understanding of the source of their food.Self-checkout counters are made available to prevent long queues during peak hours. Located on the same floor as the restaurant and urban farm, the farmer’s market focuses on selling food (including fresh produce) and beverages that are locally produced. This further reduces carbon footprint while also providing support for local farmers. Products sold here are checked and selected carefully before making it’s way to the consumers. This allows consumers to shop at ease.

The restaurant also uses ingredients from the market for its dishes. It allows both the market and restaurant to operate sustainably with minimum wastage. Besides, harvested fresh produce from the urban farm is also sold here.

The main exhibition area highlights the environmental problems that the world is currently facing which include pollution, climate change, deforestation, increased carbon footprint, just to name a few. This aims to draw awareness on how our actions might directly or indirectly contribute to these problems.
